Tel Shikmona is a low archaeological mound on Haifa's coast, easy to miss if you are focused on the Bahá'í gardens or German Colony. Its importance is deeper than its profile: excavations connect the site with ancient coastal settlement and, especially, production of the prized purple dye associated with Phoenician maritime trade.
The site is best for travelers who enjoy archaeology in situ rather than reconstructed ruins. Walk it as part of the seafront, with the understanding that the open mound and shoreline need imagination; the reward is seeing Haifa's coastline as a working ancient edge, not just a modern promenade.
