The Church of St John the Baptist is one of the oldest churches in Jerusalem, founded in the 5th century and later used as a hospice during the Siege of Jerusalem in 1099. Its silver dome is visible from the Muristan, though the entrance is easy to miss among the Old City's lanes. The church rewards a short detour for its age and layered history.
