Echizen Washi Village

Echizen Washi Village is the paper-making district around Shinzaike-cho, where small facilities explain and keep alive one of Japan's classic washi traditions. The Paper and Culture Museum covers the history and uses of Echizen paper, while Papyrus House is the easy hands-on stop for making a sheet of your own.

The area is more a cluster than a single museum. Leave time to walk between the paper museum, workshops, shops, and the nearby shrine district, especially if you are interested in craft rather than just souvenirs.
