Hino Shrine stands at the entrance to Mount Hino, a sacred mountain often called the Fuji of Echizen. The mountain has another shrine at the summit, and the summer Mount Hino festival includes dances and a torchlit night climb to watch the sunrise.
Inside the shrine area, look for the ema house, where old wooden votive plaques include wishes and harvest images dating back to 1665. It is a good stop if you are exploring Echizen's shrines and craft villages.
