Kawabun

Kawabun is a restaurant complex housed inside a registered tangible cultural property — a former merchant's mansion built in 1907 on the edge of the old castle moat. The compound includes a main building with a formal kaiseki dining room, a casual French bistro in the adapted carriage house, a wedding chapel and an outdoor garden bar.

The kaiseki restaurant is the standout: a multi-course tasting menu of seasonal Japanese ingredients in a private tatami room overlooking a karesansui garden. Lunch sets run from around 5,000 yen; dinner from 12,000. Reservations essential; the staff handle English booking by email. A perfect occasion restaurant near Nagoya Castle.
