This museum near Tsuwano Station is devoted to Mitsumasa Anno, the Tsuwano-born artist whose picture books and watercolours made him known far beyond Shimane. The galleries show landscapes, book art, posters, and drawings that reward close looking.
It is a softer stop after the shrine and castle, but a good one. The museum also helps explain Tsuwano's literary and artistic self-image: this is not only a castle town, but a small place proud of the people it has sent into the wider world.
