Koyasan Reihokan Museum

Twelve centuries of esoteric Buddhist art and treasures

The Reihokan (Treasure Museum) houses Koyasan's most important religious art — mandalas, sculptures, paintings, and ritual objects accumulated over twelve centuries of Buddhist practice. Many of the pieces date from the Heian and Kamakura periods, when Koyasan was at the height of its influence, and the collection is one of the finest repositories of esoteric Buddhist art in Japan. The building itself is a 1921 reinforced concrete structure in a traditional Japanese style. Admission is around ¥600, and a combined ticket with the Garan is available.
