Koyasan's attractions are almost entirely religious and contemplative. The two main complexes — Okunoin and the Garan — take most of a day between them, and wandering the quiet streets between temple compounds is itself part of the experience. A morning zazen session or the chance to observe a fire ceremony at one of the larger temples adds another dimension to the visit.
