Nikko Botanical Garden is a quiet Tokyo University garden with local mountain plants, trees, and seasonal flowers. It has long been associated with imperial visits, and some of its plantings were said to be favourites of Emperor Taisho.
The garden works best as a calm add-on to the shrine area rather than a headline sight. Come for a slower walk among Nikko's native flora, especially if you want a break from the busier temple approaches.
