Roppongi

Roppongi is Tokyo's most international district — a dense mix of nightclubs, jazz bars, upscale restaurants, and world-class art museums. The neighbourhood has long attracted expats, tourists, and Tokyo's nightlife crowd, which gives it a different energy from the rest of the city. It can be loud and brash after dark, but it also has a serious cultural side that most visitors overlook.

The centrepiece of modern Roppongi is Roppongi Hills, a large mixed-use complex built around the Mori Art Museum, which sits on the 53rd floor with sweeping views across the city. Nearby Tokyo Midtown houses the Suntory Museum of Art and more restaurants and galleries. Together these two developments transformed what was once purely a nightlife strip into one of Tokyo's main arts precincts.

Getting here is straightforward: Roppongi Station is served by the Hibiya Line and the Toei Oedo Line.
