Mimitsu is the old-port side of Hyuga, a preserved district of wooden merchant houses and narrow streets near the mouth of the Mimi River. It is quieter than the cape and beaches, and that is part of the appeal.
The district is best treated as a slow wander rather than a checklist. Stop at the folk museum if it is open, but the main pleasure is seeing how much of the old port texture has survived.
