Okuragahama

Long white-sand surf beach south of central Hyuga.

Okuragahama is Hyuga's broad, open surf beach, running for almost four kilometres south of town. It is a better place for waves and walking than for a sheltered swim.

Surf competitions are held here, and local surfers use it because the beach faces the Pacific cleanly. Even if you are not getting in the water, it gives Hyuga the wide-horizon feeling that inland Kyushu towns do not have.
