The city centre is walkable. Taxis are the main transport for getting to the southern beaches, Tala Bay, and the Marine Park — negotiate the fare before getting in. There are no meters. Minibuses run on fixed routes within the city and are cheap. A hire car is useful for exploring Wadi Rum and Petra on your own schedule but not necessary within Aqaba itself.
