Aqaba's duty-free status makes it the most accessible corner of Jordan for drinking. Several waterfront bars and hotel bars serve alcohol openly. Twist Pub and Restaurant has a terrace overlooking the Red Sea and live entertainment; it's the main standalone bar destination in town. Diwan Al Basha has a fine waterfront location with glass walls facing the harbour. Traditional coffeehouses (qahwa) serving Arabic coffee and tea are scattered through the city centre and are the local gathering point.
