Eating Out

Aqaba's restaurant scene is focused on seafood given the port location. Ali Baba restaurant near the main beach is the most famous local name — grilled fish, shrimp, and mezze at modest prices, popular with locals and tourists alike. The hotels along the southern beach road have more upscale dining. Fast food and shawarma stands are everywhere in the city centre and are cheap. The duty-free status of Aqaba means that alcohol is more accessible and affordable than elsewhere in Jordan, making the bar-restaurants a practical option for an evening meal.
