Getting There

King Hussein International Airport (AQJ) is 15km north of the city. Royal Jordanian operates regular flights from Amman (40 minutes); international charter and low-cost flights arrive from Europe in season. Taxis and airport buses connect to the city.

By road from Amman (330km north), the Desert Highway takes around 4 hours. JETT and other coach companies run the route frequently from Amman's southern bus station. From Petra (130km north), around 1.5 hours.

Ferries cross to Nuweiba in Egypt's Sinai: the fast passenger ferry takes about 1 hour; the car ferry takes 2–3 hours. The Israeli border crossing at Wadi Araba (Yitzhak Rabin crossing), 5km north of Aqaba city centre, allows pedestrians and vehicles to cross to Eilat.
