Living Land Farm

A community rice farm outside Luang Prabang where visitors learn the work behind a bowl of sticky rice.

Living Land Farm is one of the better hands-on excursions around Luang Prabang, especially if the temples have started to blur together. The visit walks you through rice cultivation, from seed selection and ploughing to planting, threshing, milling, and cooking, with enough mud and practical work to keep it from feeling like a lecture.

The point is not just novelty. Sticky rice is central to Lao meals, and spending a morning seeing how much labour sits behind it changes the way you look at the baskets on restaurant tables. Book in advance and wear clothes that can get dirty.
