Sultan Idris Shah II Mosque

The state mosque of Perak, completed in 1968 and visible from much of central Ipoh: a great gold dome with four slender minarets, set in a wide grassy compound off Jalan Sultan Iskandar in the Old Town. The architectural style is Mughal-influenced, the interior gleaming white marble; non-Muslims may visit at quiet times outside prayer hours.

The mosque is named for the Perak sultan who funded it, and is the venue for Ipoh's main Eid prayers. Worth a quick external photograph at sunset for the golden dome against the limestone karsts rising on the horizon.
