Pantai Pasir Tengkorak is a small north-coast beach whose name, usually translated as Skull Sand Beach, sounds more dramatic than the scene feels. The beach itself is a calm curve of pale sand backed by trees, with views across the water toward Thailand on clear days.
It is a good antidote to busier Pantai Cenang. Facilities are simple, monkeys can be bold, and the beach is best for a swim, a picnic, and a quiet hour rather than a full resort day. The drive north is part of the pleasure, especially if you are exploring Langkawi beyond the cable car and duty-free shops.
