Eating Out

Perak's food is dominated by the Ipoh kitchen — Hainanese-style bean sprout chicken, wonton noodles, white coffee, satay celup, and a long list of kopitiam breakfasts that draw food pilgrims from across Malaysia. See the Ipoh page for the city's restaurants. Beyond Ipoh, the state's best eating is rural: Kuala Kangsar is famous for its cendol and laksa stalls; Taiping has a strong noodle culture and a popular night market; the small towns of the Larut plain are known for grilled river fish and the spicy fermented-rice dish tempoyak. On the coast, the fishing village of Kuala Sepetang is celebrated for its mangrove-smoked seafood.
