Sarawak's network of national parks and longhouses is best navigated from the two main coastal cities. Kuching, in the southwest, is the natural base for Bako, Semenggoh, the Cultural Village, Annah Rais, the Wind and Fairy Caves, and Lemanak River longhouse trips. Miri, in the northeast, is the springboard for Niah, Lambir Hills, Mulu, and the Bario Highlands. Most visitors split their time between the two — fly into Kuching, work west and south, then fly to Miri for the cave country and the highlands.
