A whitewashed temple on a small wooded hilltop in the Bagar quarter at the northern, old-town end of Pokhara. The shrine is dedicated to Bindhyabasini Bhagawati, a manifestation of Durga, and is the religious heart of the original Pokhara settlement — the new tourist Lakeside is a long way south.
Pilgrims climb the steps to make offerings at one of several shrines on the platform; views from the top include glimpses of Machhapuchhre on clear days. Saturdays and Tuesdays are the busiest, with animal sacrifices in the early morning. To see Pokhara as it was before tourism, walk up here through the old bazaar of Bagar with its battered shopfronts and Newar architecture.
