Eating Out

The Lakeside strip is lined with restaurants catering to trekkers — everything from stone-oven pizza and Israeli shakshuka to Tibetan momos, Indian curries and traditional Nepali dal bhat, the thali-style platter of rice, lentils and sides that is the national dish. Prices are low, the food is generally good, and most places refill your dal bhat for free. Lakeside bakeries are famous for their chocolate cake and apple pie, both essentials after a long trek.
