Mong is a small town in Poonch District of Azad Kashmir, perched on a hillside with views across the surrounding valleys. The town is known locally for its war memorial (Yaadgar), which commemorates soldiers from the region, and serves as a market centre for the villages scattered through the hills around it.
The setting is attractive — green terraced slopes, stands of pine and walnut trees, and a generally peaceful atmosphere that belies the area's proximity to the Line of Control. The bazaar has tea stalls, a few basic eateries, and shops selling provisions. Like much of Azad Kashmir, the area is at its most appealing in spring when the hillsides are wildflower-covered, and in autumn when the walnut and chinar trees turn colour.
Mong is connected by road to Rawalakot and the broader Poonch District network. Public transport exists but is limited — shared Suzuki vans are the main way of getting around. Foreign visitors to Azad Kashmir should check current permit requirements before travelling, as regulations can change.
