Khaigala is a small roadside town in the Poonch District of Azad Kashmir, sitting at around 1,700 metres in the hills between Rawalakot and Hajira. It is one of those places that travellers pass through more often than they stop in — a single bazaar strip, a few tea shops, and a scatter of houses on the surrounding ridges.
The town's usefulness for a traveller is its position. The road from Rawalakot to Hajira climbs over Khaigala, and the views over the pine-covered valleys on either side are some of the best in the district. Shared wagons heading in either direction stop here, and you can break a journey for chai and grilled corn without much fuss.
There is no formal sight to see and no hotel worth recommending. The point of stopping is the air, the trees, and a half-hour walk along the upper ridge before climbing back on a wagon. Bring a jacket — even in summer the wind can bite at this elevation.
