Mingora is the commercial heart of Swat — a busy, scrappy bazaar town that handles trade for the entire valley. The Cheena and Green Squares are the main landmarks; everywhere around them are cloth shops, jewellers, fruit stalls, and the chai stops that fuel the day. The pace and crowds are jarring compared with the rest of the valley.
For travellers it is a transit and supply stop rather than a destination, but useful as the place to buy decent shoes for a trek, change money, or eat a proper Pashtun meal of karahi and naan. The Saidu Sharif road links the two towns into a continuous strip.
