Things to Do

Swat's main draws are its natural scenery and Buddhist heritage. Trekking in the upper valley — particularly to Mahodand Lake and the Ushu Forest — is superb, and the mountains around Kalam offer serious hiking for the more adventurous.

Malam Jabba, at 2,652 metres and 39 km northeast of Saidu Sharif, has Pakistan's only ski resort, with a chairlift and runs that are open roughly from December to March. In summer the same area is good for hiking.

The Swat River offers trout fishing — the hatchery at Madyan stocks the river, and the angling season opens in April.
