The town's central plaza, facing the cathedral and the old provincial capitol, is the working centre of Kalibo. Mango and acacia trees shade benches; tricycles queue along the south side; vendors sell halo-halo and grilled banana skewers from carts. By 17:00 the air cools and the locals come out for the evening walk around the park's perimeter.
The square is the focus of the Ati-Atihan procession, packed with drummers and dancers for the festival week, and it serves as the main public space for civic events the rest of the year. The Aklan Tourism Office is on the southwest corner. Worth ten minutes either side of cathedral, particularly at dusk.
