Tucked into the cliffs at the northern end of the island near Yapak, the Bat Caves shelter colonies of giant fruit bats — the so-called "flying foxes," with wingspans over a metre. Show up in the late afternoon and wait for them to spill out of the caves at dusk on the way to their feeding grounds on the mainland; it is genuinely impressive. The path in is rough and unmarked, so it is worth hiring a local guide from the nearest village rather than going alone.
