Barrio Barretto, the beach strip north of the main freeport gate, is where most of the nightlife concentrates. It has a long history as a rest-and-recreation strip from the navy era and now draws a mix of expats, divers, and Filipino holiday-makers. The atmosphere is low-key and beachfront bars stay open late. Inside the freeport itself, the bar scene is quieter and more resort-oriented.
