The Buntun Bridge carries the Pan-Philippine Highway across the Cagayan River on the western edge of Tuguegarao City, connecting the city to the municipality of Solana. It's one of the longest bridges in the Philippines and a civic landmark. The bridge itself isn't a destination exactly, but crossing it — either by tricycle or on foot — gives you a proper view of the Cagayan River in both directions: wide, powerful, and lined with the flat agricultural plain that defines this part of northern Luzon.
Buntun Bridge
A story
The Buntun Bridge was the longest bridge in the Philippines for decades after its construction in the 1970s. It spans the Cagayan River — the country's largest river basin — linking Tuguegarao City to the municipality of Solana on the western bank. At over 1.2 kilometres long, crossing it gives a real sense of the scale of the Cagayan River, which drains the entire valley between the Cordilleras and the Sierra Madre.
