Café Bateel is a Saudi-born chain that has become one of the more civilised café options in the Gulf — it started as a date producer (the best dates in Saudi Arabia are Bateel's) and expanded into a café and restaurant format. The Doha locations, particularly the Souq Waqif branch, serve good coffee, fresh date pastries, and light meals.
For a non-alcoholic alternative to the hotel bar scene, Bateel is reliable: the interiors are comfortable, the coffee is good, and the food — light sandwiches, salads, and the date-based pastries — is consistently decent. Open from morning until late.
