Getting Around

The Doha Metro (opened 2019) now covers three lines and is the easiest way to navigate the city. The Red Line runs airport–city centre–West Bay; the Green Line covers central Doha and Education City; the Gold Line connects the southern suburbs. Trains run frequently, carriages are clean and cold, and the signage is bilingual. Single-trip cards are cheap and available at any station.

Taxis are abundant and now mostly metered, or bookable via the Careem and Uber apps. Rental cars are useful for out-of-town sights (camel racing, the northern coast, Khor Al Adaid), but driving in central Doha is stressful and parking is difficult. Walking is viable in the winter months in the museum district and Souq Waqif area; in summer it is inadvisable for any distance over 500 metres during daylight hours.
