Al Kar is a long-running summer resort village at the bottom of the Al Hada escarpment, reached by cable car or the switchback road. It has a chairlift, small theme park rides, a few restaurants, and walking paths through the boulders at the base of the cliffs. By regional standards it is dated, but on a summer weekend it is packed with families who have come from the lowlands to escape the heat.
The setting — sheer cliffs above, desert below — is more memorable than the rides themselves. Pair a visit with the cable car descent for the best of the area.
