Al Shafa is the high plateau south of Ta'if, climbing to over 2,000 metres and home to scattered villages, small farms, and some of the best honey production in the Kingdom. The viewpoints along the escarpment look down over the lowlands and west toward the Hejaz mountains. In summer the air is unmistakably cool, in winter the area is occasionally dusted with snow.
The drive up takes about an hour from Ta'if. Several roadside stalls sell Al Shafa honey direct from beekeepers — expect to pay considerably more than supermarket prices for the genuine product.
