The Andong Dam on the Nakdong River was completed in 1976 and created a large reservoir that flooded several villages in the valley. The dam itself is a massive rock-fill embankment, 83 metres high, and the lakeside around it has been developed into a pleasant walking and cycling zone. The folk museum stands at the lakeside, and the path along the northern bank offers views across the water to the hills beyond.
The reservoir also supplies water to a large part of southern Korea. What was lost when it was built — traditional architecture, farmland, communities — is documented at the nearby folk museum, which preserves artefacts rescued from the flooded villages. The road across the dam top connects the museum area to Dosan Seowon, making it easy to combine both in a half-day excursion.
