Buyongdae Cliff rises directly across the Nakdong River from Hahoe Folk Village and provides the best elevated view of the entire village and the river bend that makes the setting so distinctive. The cliff is 64 metres high with a rocky overhang. From the top, you look down on the village and the river looping around it on three sides — it's the view that appears in every photograph of Hahoe.
To reach the cliff, you take the small hand-poled ferry from the village across the river (a few hundred metres), then follow the path uphill for about fifteen minutes. The climb is not difficult. The view from the top is best in the morning when the light comes from the east. Pine trees line the path and a small pavilion marks the summit. Several traditional Confucian scholars retreated to this cliff to study in isolation.
