Heonhwa Road is a coastal road south of central Gangneung, known as much for its old stories as for the sea views. The route is linked to tales from the Silla period recorded in the Samguk Yusa, including the story of Lady Suro and the old man who gathered royal azaleas from a cliff.
It is best treated as a short scenic drive or a stop while exploring the coast near Jeongdongjin. The legends give the cliffs and water a little more weight than a normal seaside road.
