Jeongdongjin Beach is Gangneung's classic sunrise beach, about 18 km south of the city centre. It became famous for early-morning views over the East Sea and still draws visitors who come to watch the first light hit the water.
The beach area is easy to combine with the coastal railway scenery and nearby cafes. It is most atmospheric at dawn, but the wide sea view makes it a pleasant stop at almost any time of day.
