Negombo's appeal is more atmospheric than monumental. The best things to do here involve the canal, the fishing harbour, and the old colonial quarter — walking, cycling, or taking a slow boat rather than ticking off sights. The two churches, the Dutch fort ruins, and the giant reclining Buddha at Angurukaramulla Temple are worth a few hours on foot.
