Beitou Park is the long, green spine of the Xinbeitou hot-spring resort, laid out by the Japanese in 1913 along the stream that carries sulphurous water down from the Thermal Valley above. Steam rises off the creek in cool weather, and the park strings together most of Beitou's sights — the Hot Spring Museum, the public library, the open-air public baths and the Plum Garden all sit along it.
A short, shaded uphill stroll from Xinbeitou metro station to the Thermal Valley takes in the whole resort. The park is free and pleasant in any season, busiest at weekends.
