Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE), about 40 km west of the city, is Taiwan's main international gateway. The Taoyuan Airport MRT links it directly to Taipei Main Station in about 40 minutes on the express service. Taipei Songshan Airport (TSA), right inside the city, handles some mainland-China, Japanese and Korean flights — much more convenient if you can fly into it. The high-speed rail (HSR) runs down the west coast from Taipei to Kaohsiung in 90 minutes, with frequent trains throughout the day. Conventional TRA trains cover the rest of the island, including the slow, scenic east coast to Hualien and Taitung.
