Taipei has a surprisingly strong cocktail-bar scene — half a dozen Taipei bars regularly appear on Asia's 50 Best Bars list — and a deep cafe culture, particularly in Da'an District and around Yongkang Street. The most interesting drinking happens in two clusters: the speakeasy and cocktail dens of Xinyi East District (Anhe Road, Songren Road, the alleys behind the Eslite bookstore), and the dive-bar and craft-beer strip around the Red House in Ximending, with its associated LGBTQ+ scene. For a more traditional experience, the teahouses in Maokong on the south side of the city pour Taiwanese high-mountain oolongs in pavilions overlooking the city. Karaoke (KTV) is taken extremely seriously in Taipei and is best experienced at one of the giant Cashbox or Holiday chain venues in Zhongshan or Ximen.
