Ningxia Night Market

Most local-feeling of Taipei's central night markets

Ningxia is the smallest and most local-feeling of Taipei's old central night markets — a single block-long line of food stalls set up nightly in the middle of Ningxia Road, with covered seating at the kerbside. Foreign tourists turn up but are a minority; the crowd is mostly residents of the old quarter doing dinner.

The market is particularly strong on traditional snacks: sticky rice with peanut and pork floss, taro ball soup, oyster vermicelli, sweet potato balls. Lai Ji Tang at the south end has been serving the same braised pork belly rice bowl for over forty years and rarely has fewer than ten people waiting outside. Open from 5 pm; busiest 7-10 pm.
