Surin faces west across the Andaman Sea, which means the daily sunset is one of the beach's most reliable pleasures. The casuarina trees along the shore thin out enough toward the centre of the bay to give wide, unobstructed views across the water. The best spot is simply the beach itself, either standing at the water's edge or seated at one of the beachside tables with a drink in hand.
Cloud cover from the monsoon can make wet-season sunsets more spectacular — the light scatters through the cloud layers in ways that clear-sky sunsets don't produce. The dry-season sunsets tend to be cleaner and longer, particularly in December and January when the sky stays clear well into the evening. Sunset draws a modest crowd by Phuket's standards, which is part of what makes Surin appealing — this is not Karon or Kata with hundreds of sun loungers facing the horizon.
