Surin Beach picks up a reliable swell from May to October when the southwest monsoon kicks in, and a small surfing scene has established itself on the sand in recent years. The break is a shore break over sand — nothing dramatic, but consistent enough for beginners and improvers who don't need a serious point break. Board rental is available directly on the beach from vendors who set up shop as soon as the waves arrive, and informal lessons can be arranged on the spot.
The best sessions are usually in the morning before the onshore wind builds. By midday the waves tend to be choppier and less shapely. Outside the monsoon season the beach is flat and surfing stops entirely, which is just as well as swimming and snorkelling take priority when the water calms down.
