Suan Buak Hat Park

Suan Buak Hat is Chiang Mai's main public park, occupying a pleasant shaded corner at the southwest corner of the old city moat. It's a local place rather than a tourist attraction — families picnicking, old men doing tai chi, children on the playground equipment — and all the better for it.

The park has a small pond, manicured flower beds, and plenty of benches. It's particularly popular on weekend mornings. Food vendors set up at the entrance in the evenings. If the temples are overwhelming, a half-hour here watching everyday Chiang Mai life is a good antidote.
