Boğazkale

Anatolian village beside Hattusa, the ruined Bronze Age capital of the Hittite Empire.

Boğazkale is a small Anatolian village with one huge reason to go: Hattusa, the Bronze Age capital of the Hittite Empire. The ruins sit in the dry hills above town, with city walls, gates, temple foundations, and enough scale to make the Hittites feel like a real imperial power rather than a paragraph in an ancient-history book.

The visit works because Hattusa is not alone. Yazılıkaya adds a carved rock sanctuary just east of the main site, while the Boğazköy Museum gives context before or after the ruins. The Hittite Trail turns the surrounding countryside into a walking and cycling landscape.

Boğazkale is awkward by public transport and simple on the ground, but it clears the spare-day test easily. If you are within reach of Çorum, Yozgat, or Ankara with a car, Hattusa is worth the detour.
