DEKAMER (the Sea Turtle Research, Rescue and Rehabilitation Centre) sits behind Iztuzu Beach, on the spit between the river and the sea. It treats loggerhead and green turtles found injured along the Turkish coast — many of them victims of boat propellers or fishing gear — and releases them when they recover.
Visits are short but worthwhile. You see the recovery pools, learn what's being done to protect the nesting beach, and (if it's release season) sometimes see turtles being returned to the water. There's a small donation gate; proceeds go directly to the work.
