Yılmaz Büyükerşen, the long-serving former mayor of Eskişehir, sculpted most of the figures here himself — a peculiar second career on top of his political one. The result is one of the largest wax museums in Europe, with several hundred lifelike figures arranged in themed halls: Turkish writers and politicians, world leaders, fairy-tale characters, and a hall of historical Ottoman sultans.
It is kitschy in the best sense — clearly a labour of love — and a hit with families. Look for the figure of Atatürk in his classroom-era pose and the unsettlingly accurate set of recent Turkish presidents. Open daily; allow an hour.
